This weekend I spent a great deal of time getting back in touch with my inner nerd.
On Saturday, I worked some more on my For The Hell of It software project and got it moved into user-friendly stage. On Saturday night I began messing with my Linux box again, and I got mySQL installed. Due to a mess-up when configuring my user accounts I locked myself out of my own SQL server, so after many attempts to restore activity to my database, I decided to reinstall Fedora Core 1 and start over.
After doing this, I realized that since I had a clean install I may as well try some things I was afraid to try when I had school material on there, so I installed the 2.6 kernel. This thing COOKS. It was as easy as installing an RPM and rebooting, since the kernel has come out of Extremely Difficult Development mode. I also reinsalled apt-get and mysql, so far no problems there. Sunday night while watching the Super Bowl I installed the Microsoft Core Fonts, and reconfigured my Linux machine to use fonts that didn’t look like they were drawn with a crayon by a three year old. I’m becoming quite pleased with the appearance of it now.
Aside from that, I’ve been doing a tutorial in order to get my C programming skills back up to snuff. Much of the information I am learning is good, much of it I simply just needed a refresher on. To those non-nerds reading this post, I apologize for the stuff that doesn’t make sense, I’ll try to do better next time.
