Easter was great, and filled with vast amounts of excellent food. I am battling a small cold, nothing some over-the-counter remedies can’t combat. This is the first time I have been to bed around midnight in several months, and the first time I have voluntarily awoken at 5 am since I was teaching that guy Karate on the early shift.
Last night, my Mom and Dad gave me a leather Caterpillar portfolio for me to use on my first day, it is quite awesome and makes me feel professional. I’m electing to wear grey dress pants, a white shirt, and a grey, blue, and yellow striped tie for my first day of work. I could’ve worn my suit, but I won’t be meeting my supervisor until tomorrow so I am holding off on that in order to make a good impression.
I imagine my day will be filled with orientation stuff, getting my security clearances, finding my office, and meeting with my coworkers. This is pretty exciting stuff, as I have found that I am being deployed to a new department for Cat in an emerging area of ebusiness for them. If played correctly with enough vigor, my Dad thinks I could go up quickly within the company.
My ethics at this point are thus: be 100% for Caterpillar while I am at Caterpillar, work really hard, and leave it all or mostly behind when I leave for the day. My Dad’s work ethic is much the same, but his biggest problem is a lack of people skills. Everyone I have met at Cat seems to think that I should get along very well with people, so I’m going to attempt to not make many enemies.
I don’t know how many details I am going to post about my workday on the blog here; I have heard horror stories of people getting axed for letting company information out via forums of this nature. Just suffice it to say that I am VERY excited about my first day of work, and I have been looking forward to this for quite some time.
