When your mind is clear like the void, your car is free to dart in and out of traffic with the vigor of a swallow on ecstacy. So sayeth the Book of Five Wheels.
I went to my cousin John’s last night after helping out with a few things for Tasha’s trip to St. Louis. His computer needed rebuilt, this time I added an important component… Norton Antivirus. It went quite quickly and uneventfully, which is a shock given the amount of infection that system had. I was giving them about a 60/40 chance to have one of the bad firmware viruses that hoses hardware, but they were lucky and beat the odds on that.
After this, he came with me to Wal-Mart and then to go get gas for the car, and by the time he left it was 1:30 am. I went to bed, blissfully awaiting Tasha’s return about 4:30 am.
Unfortunately, sleep was not in the cards. I got a production support call about 3:00 am that needed attention, so I was up until 4:00 am working on that. And I had an important meeting at 8:00 am today.
I roll over this morning, totally exhausted, to see that my alarm didn’t wake me up in time and it was 7:25 am. I took a super-fast shower to wash the stench partially from me, got dressed and was in my car by 7:40 am. I was so tired I didn’t even have the energy to worry about my driving and I drove much more aggressively as a result. I made it in time for my meeting just to walk into a beehive of activity that resulted in some more production issues for me, causing me to end up 20 minutes late to the meeting. Crap.
Tonight, I am sleeping. Mark my words, I am sleeping. I have tomorrow off for Jeanne’s funeral. I can sleep in until at least 10 am, and I intend to.
