Today’s advanced workout in Mapleton was fantastic. It marked the return of
The format for the class has been Shodan test, followed by Nidan test, followed by 3 to 5 time sparring and then slow sparring with everyone else in the class. It was ice cold in there today, and it took a half-hour long shower to return feeling to my feet. The basics were kind’ve slow and sluggish today, which is expected from the first segment of training in 10 degree weather.
The sparring went phenominally well today. I had a good time, took a few lumps, gave a few lumps, and fun was had by all. Surprisingly, Hickman-san stuck one of his punches into my nose at purple belt speed (read as uncontrolled and moderately fast) so he got doled out his fair share of retribution. He had apologized, but it was his turn to learn that if you dish it out, you take a little. I didn’t hurt him, but I tickled his rib a tad and then hit him in the chin just enough to wake him up. That was fun. 🙂
I got rolled over by Erbe and McCabe yet again, because I still have to figure out how to spring in and get out on them. I’m to the point now where sometimes that works and other times it doesn’t, today it wasn’t. Then came the main event…
All in all it was great to spar with him again… it’s a shame he’s going to be going back so soon.
All in all, it’s one for the books. I had a good time, got pounded on a little, did some pounding of my own, and walked away mostly in one piece. Good times.
