Last night we were on the stage, which always lends itself to cramped quarters and interesting partner drills. I led warm-ups and then we got taken through a decent basic workout, complete with self-defense partner drills.
The second class came after some hallway conversations about the black belt exam and what it involves. We did Shodan test, Nidan test, and then had time to work on our katas. Sensei told us that we needed to get back into the fighting mentality behind the katas and worry less about doing it like little correct Shodan robots. This was a pretty tough pill to swallow giving our proximity to the test, but we were able to try the idea a few times to get the gist of it and I think it will work out for the best.
I had originally planned to come to tonight’s practice, but I have been made aware that we need to get over to Tasha’s grandfather’s house and move out some of the stuff that she still had over there. He’s moving to a new place and wants this stuff out of the way, so we need to get that done tonight. I’ll make the Saturday morning workout as usual.
