Today I elected to take the holiday off, despite there being work that I needed to get done. I found out the hard way that sticking to a schedule makes it hard to break, and I found myself painfully bored most of the day.
I did get to chat with some of my good friends from college which was a nice distraction, but I found the little mono voice in my head saying “Red Warrior needs code badly.” So I cracked open my genetic art software again, and I am pleased to announce that the genetic procreation algorithm has been ported over to Java.
In lay-terms: my picture generating software works again! This is a big accomplishment in many ways: first off, I remember WTF I was doing in college, which was good. Secondly, I actually made the way it does the process much more elegent, and lastly IT WORKS! There are still quite a few features I’d like to get working before I rerelease it to the general public, however I’m thinking about sending a demo over to my AI professor at WIU and see if he remembers it.
I may finish porting the other selection methods over before I do that though. Either way, major progress made today, so I’m happy!
