Last night I went over to my cousin’s house to install a 4-port USB 2.0 hub for his “new” machine. I say “new” because for reasons unbeknownst to me, my uncle decided to spent half as much as a brand new cheap Dell to get some idiot’s used computer from Ebay.
This is a bad idea for so many reasons… first off, why waste money on someone elses refuse? Secondly, somehow it always seems to be my fault when I can’t perform miracles on these machines. Nothing was said this time, however I really don’t want to spend 3-5 hours troubleshooting this thing just because my uncle didn’t want to spend an extra $100.
The installation went pretty well, however my cousin hadn’t really used the computer at all since he got it, and it seems that this thing has some drive lettering problems, drive space issues, and general Windows nonsense going on. It needs wiped off, but he doesn’t want to lose the music that he’s accumulated so I have to work under that constraint.
In short, not fun. Buy new hardware. The End.
