I saw this article on CNN tonight about workplace burnout… I know I’m guilty of more than a few of these symptoms. Anyone else see anything familiar here?
Back when I was on PartStore and the first half of my time in EM I couldn’t wait to get to work, I really was happy to dig in and was really focused on my work. Lately, however, I’ve found that apathy (or frustration) has replaced enthusiasm and I’m watching the clock constantly after about 1 pm. I’m still getting along with my coworkers pretty well, so that’s positive.
I think I just need a vacation day or two.

You feel no motivation, no sense of accomplishment and have no desire to be challenged. Those who have burnout lose their motivation to perform, as well as their feelings of pride for a job well done.
Oh how common that one is.
Uhh… all of them?
I am so burnt out right now, and just discovering it for myself. The main killer is the hour-long horrible drive each way everyday. Bloomington traffic is awful, as is the Morton interchange.
Then I get to work and people who used to be fun annoy the living crap out of me. I wear ear plugs (concert grade) AND noise-canceling earphones with music piped in just to make it through my day.
My jobs (I feel) have evolved from design projects to project management for the client, with a little design thrown in. I solve everybody else’s problems all day except my own.
On the vacation front, I’m kind of the opposite of most people: I try to take more and use any excuse not to go to the office.
I think it’s time to re-evaluate stuff. Again. Goshdarnit.
