Tonight it was just the nidans again. I got fifteen Sochin in before class, and then Mike and I elected to warm up with a little more kata in the other room. Oedewaldt popped in, and by then
We had some good discussions about our kata… I told Matt a few of the things that Sensei mentioned to me on Tuesday and we knocked out many more Sochin. I got to 25 kata this way, and I was spent. Right around #22, I started getting a giant headache and my legs started to feel wobbly. I got some water and rested for awhile and I felt better.
I really wanted to get to 30 kata for some reason, so Matt and I decided to knock five more out in between classes. There wasn’t a lot of energy left at this point, but it was all about the endurance. I got some more water, as the headband of pain returned.
The second class was Oedewaldt’s preferred “fun with kata” segment, where each black belt picks their favorite kata and we did it twice. Mike picked Empi, Oedewaldt picked Gankaku, Garls picked Hangetsu, I picked Sochin (of course), and Matt elected Bassai Dai. By this time, I was about dead. Thankfully, some questions relating to Hangetsu and Gankaku led the class to a close.
I think I may have overdone it tonight. It was really hard, my legs were killing me by the end, and my head is just now starting to feel better. Will I do it again? You bet. The numbers improve radically when you do 32 Sochin. 🙂
