On our back deck, we’ve got a grill that is wired into our house’s gas line. It came with the house, but for reasons unknown to me we’ve never really tried to use it before.
On a whim, I decided to see if it would function so I fiddled with the knobs on the side, turned the ignition knob, and it snapped to life with the happy ‘foosh’ sound of natural gas. The only unsettling part was that the flame appears to originate at the back of the unit underneath the body of the grill and it appears to heat the whole bottom of the grill’s base. I don’t know if its supposed to work this way or not because I’ve never had one that worked this way before.
The basic questions are answered: Does it ignite? Yes. Does it get hot? Yes. Does it turn off? Yes.
I guess that means after some cleaning of the ancient grilling surface we may have many more tasty burgers and hot dogs this summer. If it doesn’t blow up the house or something in the meantime.

Natural gas? Interesting. Most of us have to settle for propane. Neat house feature!
Interesting new feature there!
Try not to kill the house. XD
When you clean it, you may want to take out the grill and the rocks and such to check out the bottom. I have one too and we found the entire burner had been rusted out along with part of the pipe that goes down to direct the gas up, so it had to be replaced but now works much better. The entire grill will probably still need to be replaced eventually because the grill itself is rusting around the pole that supports it.
