I just talked to my wife, who has travelled the vast expanse between here and Ohio in the pursuit of Longaberger basketing. She told me that the bus driver over there was an aging nerd and programmed in Clarion. Having never heard of this language before, so I looked it up on Wikipedia.
The writeup says it all… looks like a mix between BASIC, COBOL, and Pascal. Looks pretty neat, if you are a fan of BASIC.
Also, bonus points go to anyone who can classify what I’m talking about in my title.

I spent 13 hours in a car today – I think I saw each one of the hotels in your title… twice.
Nice work, Mr. Vernon. You get a matched set of two whopping nerd points. Don’t spend them all in one place.
Woot! I’m up to 3 for the year!
I met a guy, while playing pool, in Peoria that made many thousands writing some medical software in Clarion. He was living comfortably off the maintenance fees for it since he was the only *company* in Peoria that knew how to maintain Clarion code. He wanted me to come *work* for him. That is, work for him, but not get paid unless the new product made money.
