Tonight’s class was lightly attended, as is the tradition on Thursday nights lately. The first class was comprised of partner drills focused on blocking. I had the good fortune of being across from Trent-san tonight, it was a good solid basic class.
For reasons unknown, my stance and my technique were not firing together tonight. I either felt unstable in my stance (somewhat due to my foot still killing me) or my techniques did not feel powerful at all. Hopefully it didn’t show too badly… we all have down days though.
I think it was a bit due to my center being worn out. I led the class through a somewhat difficult warm-up and I found that whenever I burn out my stomach muscles I feel it when we start getting into basic technique for the night.

The second class was down the same inventive vein that Sensei Hartman has been on lately, we got to work on locking and throwing applications in Bassai Dai. I had the pleasure of partnering with
After that, we moved on to working with the u-punches. Using the upper punch as a deflecting block came pretty easily for me, it actually felt so good that I am contemplating attempting it during kumite sometime to see what happens. There was an accompanying throw, but I never really got that to work successfully as I tend to be a big lox when it comes to sweep timing.
