Crap… I got to helping my cousin spec out a new computer and midnight just blew by. I’ll take a one-day miss… no big deal.
Things have been going pretty well, work has been busy but good, and I’m really missing karate right now. If you can believe it, I’m still sore from Saturday… this Saturday is going to be a wreck I just know it.
And now… a diatribe on this Economic Stimulus Package.
I’ve been hearing everyone get excited about this economic stimulus package that is going on… many of my co-workers are asking what I’m going to spend my refund check on. I’m going to do with it what I do with all found money… put it toward my debt snowball and use it to get myself out of debt.
The government isn’t GIVING you anything. They’re just giving you back a chunk of your tax money that they’ve graciously decided they don’t want this year. Its money we already paid in, we’re just getting it back. I’ve heard some jackasses that say its their patriotic duty to spend it on more stuff… that is such BULL! It is not your patriotic duty, its your money to do with what you want. Buying a Hitachi or Sony flat screen TV means that most of the money you spend is heading over to Foreign Lands and bolstering *their* economy, not ours. So I’m going to help myself out with my money that I’m being given back.
This is a last ditch effort by the government to stave off a natural slowdown that the economy should naturally go through… it is cyclical in nature after all. Instead of having them attempt to artificially fool us into pumping the economy with our own money, I would much prefer the government actually balance things and not be so haywire that this is necessary.
I think by the time this check actually gets in my hands it should be going toward paying off one of our student loans. It’s not stimulating the economy, but I don’t care. I don’t want the payment anymore and I don’t really have anything pressing that I want to spend the money on that is a domestically produced good so I’ll just take care of myself, let our perfectly healthy economy do its thing, and let our government feel like they actually did something for a change.
So there you have it. I won’t go on political diatribes that often, but when I do, whew… watch out. 🙂
