Thursday night was a great workout, we spent the first class teaching the youth their new katas. The second class was very basics oriented, focusing on some sparring combinations. I would elaborate, but a few of them were feeling so good that I’d rather keep them close to the vest and use them later. We ended up the class by weaving around chairs, Sensei Brewer was imploring us to stay on the flats of our feet and move by pushing against the ground instead of being up on our toes. I certainly don’t have that concept down, because that doesn’t feel more mobile than being up on my toes. Ah well, something new to work on!
This morning we had a truly Spartan workout… I joined the run a bit late and got one lap outside (0.8 miles) and a half mile indoors. Then we did basics focused on form, with abdominal exercises at the end of each down-and-back pass. We ended up with a grand total of 500 abdominal reps, which I am really feeling.
Then we did five Sochin and after each kata we did 50 pushups. That’s a grand total of 200 pushups, which completely beats our previous high. I know we had pushed it because I couldn’t raise my arms appropriately to wash my hair in the shower. I got it done, but it wasn’t an easy task.
I was really proud of the Saturday morning crew today… everybody really pushed the envelope today. Special props go to Oedewaldt-san for showing up and putting up a good effort!
