After all these concerts, it was nice to get to relax and sleep in today. (I know, it’s a rough life but someone has to do it!)
Last night I decided to put my new Aquila strings on my ukulele. This required a few small modifications in order to make it work. The Aquila strings are made from a material known as Nylgut, which is essentially synthetic gut strings. These strings are polished and smooth, however this makes tying the small knot in the bottom of the string for the bridge a little more difficult. Also, the C string is thicker than my previous C string so I had to sand the bridge slot to accommodate the thicker string and widen the nut slot for the same reason.
These strings sound wonderful. They are much more warm and resonant, and they make my ukulele sound much better. I’m working on learning a tune so I can post a short video for those of you that have wondered how my ukulele sounds. I am very proud of it, and with the upgraded tuners and strings I am confident I appreciate this instrument for a long time.
I will post some photos of it with the new tuners and strings in place so you can see the new look. Tasha says the white strings really set off the gold and white tuners and thinks it looks cool. :) More soon!
