Well, at least I missed it for a good reason: Paul and Kara got married last night and we were too busy partying to be back for posting time. It was great! I finally got to complete my Best Man duties, dispensing the wedding rings and doing my toast. I went into this one with a rough outline of what I wanted to say and it turned out pretty good! I got a lot of compliments on it afterward, and several of Kara’s family asked me to give another speech at their Peoria reception in October.

The reception was totally cool… Paul got up and played his Les Paul with the band. He played their song “Overbearing” which he had learned four days earlier just for the occasion, and it rocked! Tasha’s editing up a photo set right now, so hopefully that will be available soon.

Congratulations, Paul and Kara! I hope you guys enjoy married life and enjoy your Bermuda honeymoon!

Last night around 12:30 am, I got a phone call from a buddy of mine. He had some freelance work that needed to be turned around quickly, so I spent a few hours last night and several hours today to put together a web site for him. The net result: I will have paid for my new amp (and then some) entirely with two small freelance jobs. That kicks butt!

Now Tasha and I are off to church with Paul and Kara, then to their “Last Single Supper” before the wedding. Tomorrow should be action-packed, wherein I fulfill all of my Best Man duties and the marriage takes place. There’s not much going on aside from that, so I will leave things there for the evening!

Today we all took off from the office early for a team building gathering of miniature golf and go-karts. It was a lot of fun, I’ve not driven a go-kart since I was a kid and its a lot more fun as an adult. We only got a few holes of miniature golf in, it went pretty poorly. I hope that pattern doesn’t repeat itself for our real golf outing on Sunday, but I suspect that it will.

Tonight Kevin and Alison are coming to visit from IL, as they are in town to visit some friends/family of Alison’s, so we’re going to go and get some Beau Jo’s pizza with them.

That’s about all from me right now!

Tonight was the rehearsal for Paul and Kara’s wedding. They’re getting married in a beautiful place outside of Boulder that overlooks the mountains. They’re also having Meniskus, the local band that we’ve seen together a bunch of times, play their wedding. All of the hard planning and stressful decisions are over for them, so the only things left are to have some fun this weekend.

They’re hosting a cookout at their place on Friday, and they’re having their “last single supper” on Saturday night. Sunday we’re shooting 9 holes of golf prior to the wedding, and then the main event takes place! Fun stuff!

It was good to be back at the dojo tonight. We did a few combinations involving back kick and roundhouse kick, then a few partner drills using those combinations. I was having some coordination problems tonight, and the combinations were 8-9 techniques long and involved several direction changes. Eventually I got a few reps correctly, but it was tough.

The rest of the class consisted of kata. We did Bassai Dai, Nijyushiho, and our individual kata (mine, once again, is Sochin). That was it!

I can’t wait for August to get over so I have fewer things happening on Friday nights so I can get into the dojo for the second workout of the week. September looks much better from a scheduling perspective, so that should happen a lot more often.

I had a pretty productive day at the office today, went to lunch with Paul, Kara, and Sameera, and got all of my stuff wrapped up a bit early so I got to head home early. Tomorrow is stacked from top to bottom with meetings, I think I’ve got about an hour where I don’t have someplace to be. That has two results: the work day goes by quickly, and I am tired at the end of the day.

I might have some friends coming to visit tomorrow night, if not I’m going to karate. They were supposed to get hold of me tonight to make plans, so things are somewhat up in the air.

Aside from that I’ve been researching tube amplifiers for my guitar. I’m looking at a Fender Super Champ XD like Paul has, or a Vox Valvetronix for right now. I’m going to have to make my way to the guitar shop to try them both out and see which one I like better. It seems that personal preference is a big factor in buying guitar equipment. I asked four different people for amp recommendations and got four different answers. I’m going to go in and have a listen on my own to see which sound I like better and go forward from there.

Today I slept in (much needed), did our grocery shopping, and then went over for dinner with Paul and Kara. Paul needed some help putting together some lawn furniture prior to firing up his new grill, so we spent about an hour putting that together.

After dinner, Paul and I wailed away on our guitars for a bit on his Superchamp amp. He taught me some new riffs from the Sex Pistols, including a neat little progression with a bend that made me feel cool. Now we’re back home, watching some TV before bed. It’s going to be a busy week with Paul and Kara’s wedding coming up, so we’re taking whatever down time we can get.

For those of you keeping score, I woke up from Paul’s bachelor party no worse for the wear. Tasha and I went to Chick-Fil-A for lunch and then wandered around the Butterfly Pavillion for awhile, where I held a tarantula. It was fun! More later!
