When we were watching Meniskus last week, we were informed of a special show in Boulder tonight. So we’re going to do that!

In other news, we completed our iteration-close tradition of hitting balls at the driving range despite the unusually crappy weather. There was a break in the rain, so we decided to give the driving range a try. As we were getting our balls from the machine, raindrops started to fall but it wasn’t bad enough for us to stop. Before long, however, it was coming down enough that we ended up orphaning around 1/4 bucket of balls in order to get to a drier locale.

The rest of the work day was somewhat eventful, I have officially been made a team leader. My official title is now “Integration Lead Architect” and I will have a new person to manage. I get to share responsibilities with my manager, who is going to handle personnel issues and performance reviews but I will have day-to-day leadership over someone for the first time in my career. My manager is going to mentor me on how to handle and process the personnel issues, so I will get to grow my skills as well. I’m very happy about this situation, it should be fun! Sadly, this doesn’t mean a raise or promotion this year, since the economy has frozen both of those things in our group (like most everywhere else). But it is good staging for a big one next year!

My former team leader, Paul, is moving within the organization because his development expertise is required elsewhere. Just because we’re not officially associated any more doesn’t mean we’re still not going to work together, which is a very good thing. I’m going to miss the opportunity to code side-by-side with him, though.

That’s all for now, Tasha and I are heading out for dinner before the concert!

Things are wrapping up for this iteration at work, so I’m already looking ahead to the weekend. I think we might go and see the new Harry Potter movie this weekend, Tasha has a outing with her girlfriends to go to the Renaissance Fair. Aside from that, I have to carve out a plan for our D&D session this weekend but that’s about it. Since the iteration is ending, tomorrow the group is going to embark upon our iteration closing tradition of hitting some golf balls at the driving range tomorrow if the weather holds. That means my old golf clubs may see some action after all these years!

That’s all for me right now, eventually I will have interesting topics to blog about again!

Since I’m having motivational issues with selecting a blog topic tonight, I present to you several things that happened to me on Twitter.

I tweeted about this creepy thing, which made @geeksdreamgirl conjecture that everyone should each take a bone when she dies, paint them a random color, and reassemble them one year after her death. This prompted me to quote Samuel Taylor Coleridge.

Sadly, that’s about the most interesting thing that has happened to me today. I played my guitar a little once I got home, just playing with some chords. I started reading my Fretboard Logic book, but TV was too distracting. It’s involved enough that I’ll need to focus on it, so I’ll pick it back up after Tasha is in bed. Now I’m watching the annoying newslady talk about some students that converted a 1960′s Spitfire to a 100% electric system. It has a 40 mile range and can get up to 75 mph and plugs in on a standard outlet. Pretty cool stuff.

That’s all from me right now!

Tonight Tasha and I spent the rest of our date budget on dinner and a movie. We saw “The Ugly Truth” with Katherine Heigl and Gerard Butler. It was pretty funny… a lot better than the reviews made it out to be. There were a few previews for some movies that I wouldn’t mind seeing when they come out… “Funny People” has a whole host of comedians in it that I enjoy, and seeing a more detailed trailer makes it seem considerably more interesting to me.

But anyway, back to the movie… it was a standard fare romantic comedy, Katherine Heigl’s character was a control freak local tv producer and she unwillingly got paired up with Butler’s character named Mike, the misogynistic host of a public access show called The Ugly Truth. Mike believes that men just want a pretty, sexy girl with very little substance. Heigl’s character Abby believes otherwise. The mismatched pair attempts to sway the other to their point of view, and eventually romantic comedy ensues.

I’d end up giving it a good solid B. We’ll probably add it to our DVD collection once it comes out, should fit right alongside Love Actually in the romantic comedy section.

Today was a fun day, Tasha and I slept in and then had breakfast at Denny’s. We followed it up by hanging out at Black & Read, getting some shopping done and then we went to one of my friends birthday parties. Paul (not to be confused with my team lead, Paul) turns 40 on Wednesday, so his wife wanted to throw him a surprise party. She had us all congregate at a friends house in Erie, giving him a story that their friends were watching the kids so they could go out for his birthday dinner.

Turns out Paul is a pretty analytical guy and had figured this whole plot out, so he walked in the door and presented his wife with a thank you card for his surprise party. She knew he would figure it out, so they had a good laugh about it. After some fun conversation, we headed home and Tasha and I spent a quiet evening in. I put a few hours behind my guitar, and its about time for bed.

The weekend is finally upon us! I took some time tonight to begin planning some of our GenCon 2009 events, and Tasha and I opted for pizza as an easy alternative to cooking something for dinner. It strikes me as quite sad that the only thing I have to report is what I had for dinner, but here we are.

For no reason, the dog is begging from me as if I had a bag of chips open or something else good for him to eat. I suppose I should go and find out what it is that he actually wants, so I’m going to call an end to the blogging.

Tonight I opted for a gym workout to relieve some of the stress of the office. I started off with 10 minutes on the elliptical, followed by free weights for an hour. I rounded off the workout with some ab training. It felt good to work out again, I’m certainly more relaxed as a result. Things are starting to taper off in the office a bit, thanks to everyone that expressed their concern over my stressed-out state.

Since we’re so close to the end of the month, I’m going to head back to the Arvada dojo at the beginning of August to prevent from having to spend $60 for a week of training. In the meantime I’ll fill in with some weights and karate training at the Louisville Rec Center and I should be good to go. I’m looking forward to meeting their instructor, and I’m looking forward to the shorter drive to get some good ol’ fashioned karate in.
