This morning’s workout consisted of basics. We got the chance to kind’ve tailor the workout to our own requirements, I went up and down the gym on each Nidan combination while Erbe-san and Hickman-san did the Shodan test basics. The girl behind the desk wheeled in the stereo, and Sensei Hartman put on some stuff from his personal collection of CDs to train to. He told me what the band was, they were alternative rock with Christian lyrics. At least that’s the way my brain interpreted it, I’m not sure if it was Christian rock or not but it seemed like it.
Since I have less combinations than they do basics,
That was siginificantly harder than I expected it to be, and after three times down and back I was pretty beat. We ended up the workout working on kata. It was recommended that Erbe-san and I alternate between required katas (the ones they would pick from) and two of our chosen one. For me, that worked out to: Bassai Dai, Enpi, Enpi, Kanku Dai, Enpi, Enpi, Jion, Enpi, Enpi, and finally Enpi, Enpi, Enpi. I was pretty tired by the end of this, but I think it was pretty useful.
I’m still working on getting relaxation out of the katas, I’m having the most trouble with Jion. More work will cure that. Speaking of more workouts, I’m going to probably do Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday next week. I forgot that I have to go to Ash Wednesday church, so I won’t be able to do my favored Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday schedule. Oh well, there’s always next week.
