This morning’s workout was pretty fun. My Dad came to Mapleton finally to give Saturday workouts a try. Garls-san and McCabe-san and I were the only people that came this week. There was some discussion of recent events as we warmed up, followed by some basics.
The focus of the class for me was to help my Dad get more proficient at Tekki-Shodan. He’s having trouble seeing some of the application and some of the body movements don’t work out well because of his physical limitations. McCabe-san chimed in with some things that really helped him and I think he had a good experience for his first Mapleton weekend workout.
We did Jitte as a group a few times at what time Dad said that he had seen that kata done on ESPN with a staff. Intrigued, we tried it. Some of the moves required slight modification, but it worked out really quite well. We did it a few more times without the sticks and called it a day. It was a light workout, but a good workout.
We hit the training so hard for the Nidan exam that it was becoming a chore for us, and workouts like this let us relax and enjoy ourselves again. A little lighter, but everyone was having a good time by the end.
