Last night was spent helping my cousin troubleshoot his computer. Their family has had significant problems with viruses and Spyware, but this one was new to me.
After some troubleshooting, it appeared that the virtual memory was getting used up quickly. I let Windows manage this setting, which helped, however it quickly happened again.
I opened the Task Manager up and it appeared that every few seconds an instance of iexplorer.exe would start up in the background, and this would eat up memory until the system needed to be restarted. I hooked him up with Microsoft Antispyware, and was going to partition a chunk of drive for his music and pictures so we could wipe Windows and start fresh whenever we wanted.
The Demo partitioning software I got (Acronis Partition Expert) only allowed you to get most of the way through the process, and not commit the changes to the partition table that you wanted to make. Arg. So we abandoned that idea and I went home while Antispyware scanned.
After that I went home and picked up Tasha… she got a new outfit at Sears and I got a Steak & Shake. It ended up being a pretty quiet evening, and I hear I missed a barnburner at the dojo as a result… that always happens when I take a Personal Day away from class.
