Our dog is very sick, as my lovely wife
The two x-rays were interesting… they took two views, one lateral and one on his back. The lateral view showed a soft-mass growth on his kidney, which the vet didn’t like very much. Apparently, Cushings disease causes obesity, lethargy, hair loss, panting, overeating and overdrinking. Essentially, this is treatable but it does get progressively worse as the dog ages.
The vet said that there is an outside chance that the adrenal gland has a tumor on it, and that is usually treated with medication (which has side effects, as any medication does) and potentially surgery if we can afford it/deem it necessary. She said that is a dangerous surgery that is usually done at U of I, they hold this out as a last resort.
The first step, however, is to control Teddy’s current problem of the vomiting. As previously communicated by Tasha, he’s having no food, water, or medicine tonight. Tomorrow, he gets a whopping 1/3 can of bland food that looks like it was made out of bone meal and Elmer’s glue. If he keeps that down OK, he gets more over the next 4-5 days. If he has trouble with that, we get him some Pepcid to have to settle his stomach, and potentially go back to the vet for more treatment but she seemed pretty confident that this would help.
He’s very unhappy with me right now because he keeps asking for dinner and I keep telling him no. I went upstairs to take a nap this evening, since I was up until around 4 am with him last night, and Tasha said that he was sick again in the backyard. I want my dog to feel better. I would also prefer it if he could get well in a fashion that precludes me from having to spend $225 every month but if I have to, I have to.
Thanks to everyone that has sent their wellwishes, Teddy appreciates the support (and so do we)!
