This year’s GenCon was excellent… my lovely wife and I spent a good measure of our time on the sales floor. We found some great new products to enhance our D&D experience: Tokkens, which are made to help illustrate a campaign’s treasure a little bit more. Tasha actually refers to them as treasure, and the company has intelligently weighted the rarity of the tin cards based on their in-game rarity. They come out in wide release in October (I think), so they should be fun to collect.
We also found a few other odds and ends… a magnetic initiative board for tracking whose turn it is during battle, a new WOTC thing or too, a Yoda ornament from 1997, and Tasha got a print from an artist at the Art Show. It’s very cool.
I took a cue from
As previously documented,
Then it was True Dungeon, which was different and yet still pretty fun this year. I’ve decided that I am a blistering moron at puzzles, which is a large part of success in the dungeon. I was able to trade the ultra-rare gem that I found last year for some useful equipment, including a very valuable Elixir of Life. I tried to use said elixir to revive multiple party members throughout our adventure, but the dungeonmasters seemed intent on seeing that I did not use it. About the only useful thing I did was damage some of the creatures, but I still had a pretty good time. And yes, I accidentally cast cloudkill in a hallway. I ate way too many damaging foods that weekend to not accidentally let fly. My bad everybody.
After the seminar, the rest of the convention was spent photographing costumed nerds and perusing the sales floor. The nerd throng was very interesting this year, one funny moment happened when a very greasy, dumpy looking nerd accidentally bumped into Tasha on the way past. I heard him tell his friend… “hhehehe *snerk*… I just touched a human girl.” I love getting to behold the highest eschelon of nerddom. 🙂
