Today was fun… I slept in ridiculously late, despite my most sincere intentions to go to karate this morning. We went out to Goofy Ridge (a small… interesting settlement near Sand Ridge State Forest) to visit my in-laws, it was a very quiet and laid back holiday celebration. We visited for quite awhile and opened presents, then had some light food before heading back home.
I was pretty excited this year because I actually remembered one of my father-in-law’s interests (he likes Greg Biffle, a NASCAR driver) and I got him an autographed Hot Wheels to add to his collection. He liked it a lot, then proceeded to get out his collection of Biffle memorabilia to show me. I now know how everyone else feels when I regale them with tales of my Star Wars prop addiction.
After returning home, we had to buy some last minute presents and we ended up at Avanti’s in East Peoria just in time for the Festival of Lights to be in full swing. Talk about traffic, yeesh.

Then I started in on a pair of pumpkin pies for Christmas Day and our post-Christmas gathering on Tuesday. Just before I began, Tasha came up and told me that I had to open a present early “because I needed it.” She grabbed a bag from under the tree, which I quickly opened. She had purchased ceramic pie weights for me, something that I have been complaining that I didn’t have for a long time. They make the whole pie-making process so much easier, my wife is the best! I just took the aforementioned pies out of the oven, they look really good. If it wasn’t a no-no to show up with a partially eaten pie I’d probably be into them already.
