Ye Olde Target Can

This is one of the more tangible results of our trip to the shooting range this week. Today my Dad, Grandpa and I went out and shot a bit, fortunately there wasn’t anyone else on the range today because I needed to sight in my Walther P22 a bit better.
We spent most of the afternoon doing that… it seems that the darned thing had a bur in the barrel that was throwing my bullets so they would impact sideways… a bit of time with a wire brush took care of that, and I got a chance to try out my el cheapo laser sight that I purchased on Ebay. It did the job pretty well, but the beam intensity is not such that I can see it in broad daylight.
I don’t envision needing to use it in daylight, mind you, but I would’ve hoped that I could use it to sight in my gun a bit more. For $35 it really does a pretty decent job.
I was having some trouble with consistency today, meaning that if you stood directly in front of the target I was aiming at you would probably be OK. My aim was pretty poor today, until the can came out. We set it up on top of one of the close range targets and it took me around four shots to knock it off of there, and then I was able to hit it a few more times after it got set back up there. My Dad and Grandpa both contributed to the demise of our aluminum adversary, and much fun was had by all.
Unfortunately, the range that we visit is outdoors and the ticks were out in full force. I pulled one of them off of the back of my head on the way back… nothing makes your skin crawl like that. Fortunately, from her time as a camp counselor my wife is well versed in the tick checking arts and I have a clean vermin free status right now.
I’m really enjoying this hobby, its proving to be a great tension release and is giving me something that my Dad and Grandpa can do together.
