Tonight was the first kyu test at the new dojo. They had a handful of yellow belts and white belts, I was happy to observe their test from the back room with the other lower ranking black belts. They seem to run tests identically to the way we do, with the exception of results being given next workout. Sensei Yaguchi appeared to be the only one doing any writing, so I suspect he’s the deciding factor in grading.
Our class was started by one of Sensei Yaguchi’s higher ranking black belts and we went through our normal warmups. We then moved on to some basics taken from different katas… small segments of Bassai Dai, Empi, Sochin, and Hangetsu. We then moved on to do the full katas several times before the end of the workout.
After class, Sensei Yaguchi was talking with some of us about the upcoming tournament and he reminded everyone to get the new patch. Some of his students had an older-style patch and he said everyone needed to get one, so now I’ve got a ISKF patch to put on my new gi. That’s about all for now!
