Apparently, Mel Gibson is attempting some bid for sainthood with his new film. Yesterday was Ash Wednesday, start of the Catholic season of Lent. It was also the opening of Mel’s “The Passion of The Christ” that you’ve heard about on the news.
Ash Wednesday is usually one of the “Bad Catholic” holidays that even the worst Catholics still end up coming to Mass. I’m guessing a fair amount of people were scared by Saint Mel’s new movie because there was about double the turnout of the most packed Ash Wednesday Mass that I can remember.
I have mixed feelings about this, but I guess that’s a good thing. I have yet to see the film and I’m not entirely sure I’m going to. I know the plot, and I fully accept the fact that cruxifiction was terrible and bloody and all that. I just don’t think I need to see it myself.
For those of you that don’t know the plot: He dies, it’s bloody (both because it’s torture, and because Mel Gibson is attached). Don’t worry, He gets better. Eventually He’s coming back. I dunno if Mel’s going to direct.
